Shades of Black & White

ENTER CONTEST

The SE Center for Photography is looking for Shades of Black and White. For the first 100 years of photography monochrome was the only choice. When asked to name a fine art photographer, one usually thinks of those of 1930s-70s, masters of black and white, shadow and light, form and contrast. The photographers of today turn to shades of black and white for the same expressive ability of monochrome and we're looking for the best.

Our juror for Monochrome is Michael Kirchoff. Michael has spent his years capturing the still image of people, cultures, and landscapes from around the world, to around the block, with a very unique and distinctive style. He photographs with many types of cameras and film, from a clunky toy camera to the latest digital model, using each as a tool for a specific use.

Currently, he is also Editor in Chief at Analog Forever Magazine, Founding Editor at Catalyst: Interviews, and Contributing Editor for the One Twelve Publishing online column, Traverse. The wisest words Michael ever gleaned from his father were to do what you love as your life’s work. Truer words have never been spoken.

35-40 Selected images will hang in the SE Center’s main gallery space for approximately one month with the opportunity to be invited for a solo show at a later date. In addition, selected images are featured in the SE Center social media accounts (FB, IG, Twitter) and an archived, online slide show.
