USA Landscape Photographer of the Year 2016

​Open from 15th June - 15th August 2016, this international photography competition puts the spotlight on talented photographers from around the world and celebrates the rural and urban landscape of the U.S.A. Our aim is threefold:
1) Discover and reward emerging and established photographic talent
2) Create a great photographic showcase of the diverse rural and urban landscapes of the U.S.A. with photographers’ rights protected
3) Give talented photographers from around the world a platform for success

The world-renowned photographer Charlie Waite, is the inspiration and driving force behind this competition. His commitment to encourage the next generation of photographers is well known. Having led workshops in the U.S.A. for decades, Charlie has long been enthralled by the drama and diversity of its landscape. Through this high profile competition, which is open to photographers from all over the world, he hopes to give entrants a platform through which their talent and hard work can reach a wider audience and showcase the great landscapes of the U.S.A.

You will retain the copyright of all the images you submit. We believe in protecting and promoting the rights of photographers

The overall winner of the U.S.A. Landscape Photographer of the Year will receive:
A cash prize of US$5,000
The esteemed title which they will hold for a year, until the announcement of the following year’s overall winner
Winning images showcased online with our media partners
An annual subscription to the winner's choice of Popular Photography or American Photo*

The winner of Young U.S.A. Landscape Photographer of the Year will receive:
A cash prize of US$500
The esteemed title which they will hold for a year, until the announcement of the following year’s overall winner

The winner of the categories - Classic View, Urban Landscape, My U.S.A. and Black & White - will each receive:
A cash prize of US$500

Copyright and permissions:

By submitting images to the Competition, each entrant confirms and warrants that:

a) they are the sole author of each entry and that it is their original work;
b) they own the copyright and any other intellectual property rights of each image;
c) they have the permission of those pictured in the image (or, where the image shows any persons under 18, the consent of their parent/guardian) for the usage rights required by USA LPOTY in #16 and will indemnify USA LPOTY against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement;
d) they have not licensed or disposed of any rights in the image that would conflict with uses to be made by the Competition (see #16 ); and
e) they have received any necessary permissions from the owner(s) of buildings included in submitted images for the usage rights required by the Competition in #16 and will indemnify USA LPOTY against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement.

Entrants, whose work is short-listed as a semi-finalist or above, agree to take part in any on-line galleries run by any of, but not limited to, USA LPOTY, USA TODAY, Popular Photography, Popphoto.com, American Photo, Amateur Photographer and Outdoor Photography and in any post-Competition publicity and agree to the use of their winning image and name and likeness for this purpose without compensation.

USA LPOTY reserves the right to refuse or remove an entry from the Competition for any reason.

USA LPOTY will remove any entries from the competition that it feels may breach or contravene laws of public decency or may bring the photographer, the Competition, Take a view or any of its sponsors into disrepute. Such entries will be deemed as void and any fees paid will not be refunded.

Reproduction and Usage

By entering the competition, you grant USA LPOTY and its sponsors and supporters including but not limited to USA TODAY, Popular Photography, Discover America, American Photo, Popphoto.com, Amateur Photography and Outdoor Photography, a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence to reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit, on any media, the images for any purpose related to the Competition. This may include, but is not limited to:

a) inclusion in any Competition book – print & digital versions;
b) display at any exhibitions;
c) on a secure web browser for judging purposes;
d) on the Competition website and on the websites of sponsors and supporters, including but not limited to, USA TODAY, Popular Photography, Discover America, American Photo, Popphoto.com, Amateur Photography and Outdoor Photography;
e) for use in press, promotional and marketing materials – both print & digital that may be published before, during or after the Competition.

Entrants also agree that the organisers can sub-license images to the media and to the Competition’s sponsors and supporters for reproduction in connection with the Competition.

Images used on merchandise commissioned by the organisers will be discussed individually with the photographer concerned and a separate agreement made.
